12 Korean Movies to Watch

Hi all, 
I'll be compiling a list of movies that I thought were particularly memorable to me, but keep in mind that I have so many other favorite movies that won't be mentioned due to my absentmindedness. Feel free to comment your favorite movies!
Also, don't forget that this is solely my opinion, and it doesn't entail the perspective of a particular group or anyone (*Note: Sources come from imdb, Asianwiki, and Wikipedia).


1. 내머리속의 지우개- A Moment To Remember (2004) 

Description: A Korean love story about a young couple's enduring love, which is tested when 27 year old Sun-jin is diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer's disease.

Memorable actors/actresses: Son Ye Jin, Jung Woo Sung











2. 괴물- The Host (2006)

Description: A monster emerges from Seoul's Han River and focuses its attention on attacking people. One victim's loving family does what it can to rescue her from its clutches.

3. 우리들의 행복한 시간- Maundy Thursday (2006)

Description: A suicidal girl started to visit a convicted murderer awaiting execution every Thursday.

4. 과속스캔들- Scandal Makers (2008)

Description: A radio DJ/entertainer in his 30s suddenly learns he may be a grandfather, thanks to a young girl who has a baby son and claims to be his daughter.

5. 님은 먼곳에- Sunny (2008)

Description: In 1971 Korea, Soon-Yi is an average housewife, whose only hobby is singing. At the time, some 320,000 Korean men are dispatched to fight alongside American troops in the Vietnam War, and her husband, Sang-gil, is one of them. She decides to go to Vietnam to search for Sang-gil by joining a "consolatory band" that cheers up troops. Newly named "Sunny," she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and love.

6. 해운대- Haeundae (Tidal Wave) (2009)

Description: An underwater earthquake triggers a tsunami that devastates a South Korean resort town.

7. 슬픔보다 더 슬픈 이야기- More Than Blue (2009)

Description: "K" loves Cream but has terminal cancer so he keeps his love for her secret and tries to find a mate for her before he dies so she will not be alone after he dies.

8. 의형제- The Secret Reunion (2010)

Description: A North Korean spy and a former South Korean agent form a tense partnership.

9. 이웃사람- The Neighbors (2012)

Description: Residents of a small apartment building learn that a serial killer lives within their building. Kyung-hee feels heavy guilt for not being able to prevent her stepdaughter’s murder, so she takes it upon herself to find the killer. Meanwhile, a young girl that resembles the murdered girl becomes the next target of the serial killer.

10. 늑대소년- A Werewolf Boy (2012)

Description: An elderly woman visits a cottage she used to go to when she was a girl to teach a wild boy how to behave as a human being.

11. 표적- The Target (2013)

Description: An ER doctor teams up with an assassination target to rescue his wife, held hostage by corrupt criminals and, in the process, uncovers a conspiracy.

12. 피끓는 청춘- Hot Young Bloods (2014)

Description: A comedy romance movie about the last generation of youths and their passionate romance based in Hongseong, Chungcheong Namdo in the 1980's.
